Some useful commands at Windows

Sometimes you need to use the command prompt to open some programs or window. Below is a list of commands you can use under Microsoft Windows prearranged depending of their functionality:

Control Panel

  • CONTROL: opens the control panel window
  • CONTROL ADMINTOOLS: opens the administrative tools
  • CONTROL KEYBOARD: opens keyboard properties
  • CONTROL COLOUR: opens display properties. (Appearance tab )

Package Management in Red Hat

Red Hat’s Package Manager (RPM)

RPM is a powerful software manager. It can install, remove, query, and verify the software on your system. Rpm is more than a Red Hat specific tool. Many other modern distributions, such as Caldera and SuSe, use rpm too.

Querying Your System

The first thing you should do is look and see what software you have installed on your system. Here is the command to use:

        rpm -qa | more

The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded

Cause: –

This issue may occur if the user profile was manually deleted by using the command prompt or Windows Explorer by a user or by some program. A profile that is manually deleted does not remove the security identifier (SID) from the user profile list in the registry. Since the SID is still present, Vista will still try to load the profile by using the ProfileImagePath that points to a nonexistent path. Therefore, the profile cannot be loaded. Continue reading
